Introduction

IIn response to the continuing worldwide decline of environmental quality, Environmental Education and Conservation Global (EECG) was created in 2001 to help conserve and enhance the earth's biological diversity. EECG works with education and environmental organizations and agencies in developing countries and employs a unique combination of education, social marketing, and business activities to achieve its goals. EECG believes that behavior change is essential to the conservation of biological diversity and that this behavior change must be viewed as a positive alternative by the people involved. EECG also believes that to be effective, conservation efforts must enhance the quality of life for those directly dependent on the planet's biological bounty and must promote the equitable sharing of benefits derived from the world's natural resources.

Applied Environmental Education

When EECG refers to environmental education, it is specifically referring to the combination of education, communication, and environmental social marketing activities that professionals in the field call applied environmental education.  Applied Environmental Education is a systematic educational process that equips and motivates people to participate effectively in cooperative efforts to resolve environmental problems.

EECG Programs

EECG is organized into three interrelated programs areas.  The program areas provide a focus for important core activities, allow systematic planning and integration, and facilitate fundraising and long-term sustainability.

Training and Capacity Building Program Area.  As its core programmatic activity, EECG works internationally and in the United States to develop and implement an overall capacity building and networking model that will support long-term applied environmental education activities.  Depending on the country and an assessment of the state of environmental education in that country, a variety of activities will be planned and implemented in order to reach the critical mass required to sustain a nationwide initiative.

Consulting Program Area.  EECG provides consulting services in fundraising, capacity development, facilitation, planning, and training in the United States and abroad to organizations that can afford to pay for these services.  EECG uses revenues produced through consulting activities to underwrite core objectives in the Training and Capacity Building Program Area.

Administrative and Fundraising Program Area.  EECG manages all activities in an efficient, effective manner and works to ensure that needed resources are available from a diversified funding base.

Organization

Structure.  EECG is incorporated in the United States as a not-for profit organization in the State of New York.  Federal 501 (c.) 3. tax-exempt status has been granted.  By incorporating as a tax-exempt, not-for-profit organization, EECG is able to accept donations that result in tax savings for donors from the United States.

Management.  Edward J. McCrea, President and CEO, and James L. Massey, Senior Vice-president, head EECG’s management team.  Mr. McCrea brings 30 years of international experience in environmental education, training, fundraising, and management of non-profit organizations.  Mr. Massey brings 35 years of experience working with national parks, forests, wildlife refuges, and domestic and international conservation organizations in planning, training, and field operations.

A board of directors governs EECG, with the EECG President being Chief Executive Officer.  Board members are invited to serve based on their knowledge of environmental and conservation issues, applied environmental education, fundraising, and other related skills that can benefit the organization.  Bylaws spell out governance and organizational details.
